ASSEMBLE CHAIR

This chair is made from pieces of air dried green Oak sourced from the offcuts of offcuts, with the cracks carefully sanded and celebrated, curves and discrepancies scribed perfectly together. The chair has then been fumed to a rich chocolate colour, by utilising this traditional technique we feel we have created the warmest and most inviting colour fit for a modern interior.

‘Most of my designs are reworked, tweaked and remodelled as ideas slowly evolve over periods of months, however sometimes it's lovely to just let intuition take over. One afternoon last summer I pulled out a selection of off cuts that had been sitting in and around the workshop, over a couple of hours I played,  like a child,  assembling, rearranging, adding, subtracting, until the composition of parts formulated a version of a grand throne like chair. Utilising the natural distortion of this fractured piece of green oak for the curvature of the seat, and celebrating a mighty knot in the central position on the chair back, as these pieces balanced precariously I new that there was something special within this composition of pieces, it was just a question of slowing down and using my craft and design skills to turn these pieces in to a comfortable and practical lounge chair.’ - Gareth
